Facts: One of two new Gamma racquets for 2013—the lighter, longer RZR 105 is the other—the RZR 95 incorporates RZR Advanced Aerodynamics to “minimize drag, making it fast on any shot from any angle,” according to Gamma. A tapered bridge beam is built to channel air through the throat of the frame for more acceleration. The recessed grommet channel minimizes drag by allowing air to pass over the frame smoothly. Its sweet spot is a bit more centered than some new frames; many are now located toward the tip of the hoop. This racquet is a bit stiffer than Gamma’s sub-100 square-inch 2012 racquets.

Impressions: Best suited for all-court players with longer swings who can generate their own power. This is a control-orientated racquet that can produce all types of spin effectively. A fast feel through the air and the ability to create sharply-defined shots are clear assets. From angling off drop volleys to slamming overheads with authority, the RZR 95 capably handles all challenges at net.

If you’re a baseline grinder, a heavy topspin player with a western grip, or a player most comfortable with larger head, thicker-beam or lighter racquets, you’ll probably be better served play-testing the RZR 105. All-courters, club doubles specialists and shotmakers who prefer a smaller head, thinner beam, and more traditional feel should enjoy the RZR 95, which shines in transition and at net. The higher you reside on the NTRP scale, the more you’ll get from this racquet.
